Auto Theft/Crime Prevention Tips
As a public service, the Coalition Network of Forensic Examiners will from time to
time post interesting and useful tips on preventing Auto Theft and additional Crime Prevention tips. Remember,
in many cases, auto theft is a crime of opportunity. Leaving your keys in your vehicle, even when you are
getting gasoline, is a crime waiting to happen. So please remember, to take your keys with you whenever
you exit your vehicle. Also, it has come to our attention that one alleged auto theft expert is advising
people not to park in a well lit area because doing so gives the auto thief light to work by!! We got a
chuckle out of that one as it goes against virtually every crime prevention tip we have ever seen. Every
Police Department in the United States and the world for that matter, strongly suggests that you park in a well lit area for
safety reasons. It should be quite obvious to rational people that parking in a dimly
lit area is an open invitation for many types of crime, let alone auto theft.
Can you imagine saying to your spouse “See you later, please park in a dimly lit area, or an area with no lighting
at all”? We didn’t think so. Also, any real auto theft expert knows
that auto thieves do not like working under a light. It exposes them to being identified
by witnesses and certainly exposes them to apprehension by law enforcement. But as most of you already
know, the internet can be a repository of useless and many times dangerous information, such as the expert who tells you not
to park in a well lit area. Very dangerous and potentially life threatening advice,
not to mention, irresponsible.
Anyway,
here is a tip we recently came across. We liked it and wanted to share it with our readers.
Excellent tip! Car Keys
Put your car keys beside your bed at night.
If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get
in your house, just press the panic button for your car.
The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound
until either you turn it off or the car battery dies.
Next time you come home
for the night and you start to put your keys Away, think of this:
It's a security alarm system that you probably
already have and requires no installation. Test it.
It will go off from most
everywhere inside your house and will keep Honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the Button on the
key fob chain.
It works if you park in your driveway or garage If your car alarm Goes off when someone
is trying to break in your house, odds are the Burglar or rapist won't stick around ... After a few seconds all the Neighbors
will be looking out their windows to see who is out there And sure enough the criminal won't want that.
And
remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a Parking lot.
The alarm can work the same way there.....
This is something that
should really be shared with everyone.
Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime.
