ACE Hardware- “transponder key programming”:
Response to the information received regarding ACE Hardware’s “programming
of transponder keys”: By Thomas Seroogy, CFL (posted with permission of the author)-
Transponder key programming is being promoted to the Ace Hardware franchise
owners this week, at the ACE Hardware national buyers show in Denver, Colorado. Introduced by Hy-Ko Products, the program
is designed to provide tools, supplies and training in duplicating and programming automotive transponder keys for retail
customers.
The transponder key and tool packages being presented
to Ace franchises are manufactured by Bianchi USA. The equipment currently sold into the locksmith market, is capable of cutting,
cloning and programming transponder keys into most of today’s transponder equipped vehicle’s.
Although the introduction of this equipment into the retail store venue does
not present new methods for an auto theft, it does introduce the availability of tools capable of being used for auto theft
to a market with fewer security controls and restrictions on the use of such tools and information.
